Learn how to model a Boost Power Factor Corrector and tune controller gains to improve power factor using Simulink®. The passive components like the diode bridge rectifier and the boost converter are modeled in Simscape Electrical™. The cascaded controller setup is modeled in Simulink and controls the inner inductor current loop and the outer voltage loop. 

The PID Tuner from Simulink Control Design is used to tune the controller using the plant model. Since the plant is nonlinear, linearization results in a zero linear system. Hence, fequency response estimation is used by injecting perturbations into the plant to estimate the plant frequency models for the inner and outer loop. The PI gains are computed using these plant models and are updated in the block. The controller performance is verified by running the closed loop simulation.
